New Forest Service research map publication series developed at IITF

The Forest Service has created a new national publication series, the Research Map (RMAP), to publish maps developed by Forest Service scientists and collaborators. The purpose of the series is to convey geospatial information useful for science and education.

The RMAP series is patterned after the successful Forest Service General Technical Report (GTR) publication series and will serve as an outlet for an increasing array of information on landcover attributes such as vegetation, fuels, canopy characteristics, biomass, percent tree cover, species distributions, invasive species, forest health, biodiversity patterns, risk assessments, urbanization, fire frequency, soil characteristics, watershed health and sustainability, climate characteristics, models of future scenarios, and other topics.

The USDA Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory initiated the series and worked with the Washington Office of Communications and the PNW publications office to and develop the first maps.

The first four maps are printed two-sided, in English and Spanish, and available in hard copy or electronic PDF versions:
